Erewash MP Maggie Throup visits FC Laser
FC Laser, a leading precision laser cutting company, played host to a visit by Maggie Throup MP, the Conservative MP for Erewash, at the company’s new £1.5 million manufacturing site in Draycott, Derbyshire in July, for an update on the company’s continuing investment and job creation. The company recently secured funding from the Regional Growth Fund to support its three-year business development and expansion plans.
Maggie’s visit came soon after FC Laser had invested in the latest 6KW 4M Bystronic CO2 laser and a new electronic press, which have increased its manufacturing capacity and created new opportunities. The company’s investment has also helped increase employment in the area with the recruitment of more permanent staff in the offices and shop floor. This move has been bolstered with the addition of four local engineering apprentices.
While touring the premises, Maggie met the company’s staff. FC Laser’s Managing Director, Danny Fantom, said Maggie was interested in seeing their modern laser cutting capabilities and hearing about their plans for growth. FC Laser, which already employs 30 staff and two apprentices, has just taken on four more engineering apprentices. When the new 17000sq ft factory was opened in April, six new jobs were created.
Commenting on the company’s success, Maggie said,
“FC Laser embodies the best of manufacturing here in Erewash, with the latest technology and working with young talent through embracing apprentice schemes.”
She praised how FC Laser has supported the local community and discussed how promising the future looked. The company’s investment in the latest machinery has enabled it to secure several major new contracts. In addition, FC Laser recently achieved the BS EN1090: 2009 + A1: 2001 Execution Class 2 standard for structural metalwork. The certification provides the company’s customers in the structural and architectural metalwork industries, the reassurance that it can meet the stringent demands of the accreditation to harmonise the safety performance of its construction products.
During a tour of the company, Maggie was introduced to employees from across the business including the sales office, business development, quality management, engineering and fabrication
